The Montecito Association continues to work collaboratively with the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade and Santa Barbara County Public Works on pathways and pedestrian safety improvements throughout Montecito. These efforts are focused on improving safe pedestrian access to schools, neighborhoods, and community destinations while preserving Montecito’s unique semi-rural character and natural beauty. Community planning efforts supporting pathways date back decades, including policies within the Montecito Community Plan and community surveys showing strong support for improved pedestrian and bicycle access. Safety remains a key priority, as pedestrians are significantly more vulnerable when walking in roadways without designated paths. Today, the growing network of roadside walking paths and pedestrian improvements helps strengthen neighborhood connectivity, accessibility, and overall community resilience throughout Montecito.
